Waterscapes and liminality: a stylistic analysis of Colum McCann’s spatialities of rebirth1

This paper focuses on the processes of rebirth characters experience in extracts from four works (two novels, a novella and short story) by Irish author Colum McCann. These are defined strong sense displacement betweenness but they go through deep transformations, physical closeness with waterscapes – spatialities that closely associated water –, as well game mirrors between them ensues. article analyses how latter stem connections phenomena suspension liminality. It also aims to study writing these mechanisms echoes them, identifying main stylistic characteristics specific author’s description forms spatiality. To this end, it uses analytic tools borrowed narratology cognitive stylistics such figure/ground opposition visual linguistic salience.
